We found out on August 3 and were very pleasantly surprised. We kept the news to ourselves for a month. We really loved having time to make plans, visit the doctor and see our baby's heartbeat and share it between just the two of us.
We made the announcement to our parents, grandparents and siblings on Labor Day weekend. They were so happy and excited.
On Tuesday, we will be 13 weeks along. We have been blessed to have a very easy first trimester. I've experienced virtually no sickness besides some headaches and tiredness. Being a little tired and overextended made me go home early from Leah's wedding weekend, which was a disappointment, but I got to sleep a lot of the way home.
I've found the only time I get nauseous is if I don't eat enough, so as long as I eat regularly, I feel great. No complaints here! I loooove to eat!
Even hormones don't have me crazy, and I think Jason knows he lucked out! I don't even cry at the sappy commercials (yet).
Jason has been a busy bee lately, as he now has a goal of finishing the basement before the baby gets here so we can have a guest room downstairs and the nursery next to our room. It's a tall order, but he's working so hard and has a lot of family and friends who are so very kind to come help, since I'm pretty much useless when it comes to construction except for making pizza and fetching beers.
Yesterday Allen and his farm helper Matt and our friend Nick came out to dig a hole next to the house for the egress window. They worked from morning til after dark and they did an awesome job. I was smoked out (literally) of a nap when the fumes from the gas powered concrete saw made their way throughout the whole house. It eventually aired out, but the dust is everywhere now.
Also yesterday, Sharon, Bridget, Val and I did the Memory Walk for Alzheimer's disease. We were also joined by one of Bridget's co workers. It was a really pretty 3 mile walk and a meaningful event in memory of Jason's grandpa Cy.
We also got another new addition to our family recently when I purchased a new (to me) Canon 40D DSLR camera. I am so impressed with this piece of machinery. The quality of my old 10D just doesn't even compare to the amazing color and contrast of this camera. I will post photos of a wedding reception I shot last weekend soon.
Now pictures!
AHHHH!
Before the digging.
How many guys can you fit in an egress hole?

I am planning out a gender-neutral knitted wardrobe for Baby Schmitz as we speak. Aka fushia with sequins. We cool on that?
(jk) I am being a little old lady and doing the yellow/blue combo because I am biased... but if it ends up being a girl just tell people the knit goods are just rubber ducky/rain themed:)
Congratulations guys. This is exciting news!
Bridget told us as we walked in the door last night from a wedding in St. Louis (yes another 2 nights in a hotel). We are so excited to be Great Aunt Karen and Great Uncle Don. Congratulations.
Congrats, guys. How exciting!!
